ROLL CREDITS

Graham & Brown wallcoverings get top billing for being bold, beautiful and budget-friendly

Thanks to the Faux Painting Fever epidemic of the 1990s, I often have to trick clients into embracing wallcovering. One quick look at the price tag on good paper and clients beeline for the paint store. When I have an “Aha!” moment with wallpaper, I immediately assume that a single roll will run upwards of $175. Factor in installation costs, and the project total rivals that of a used Volvo.  Two words are changing that: Graham & Brown.

The U.K.-based manufacturer carries bold graphic styles by Marcel Wanders, Barbara Hulanicki and Julien MacDonald, with many coming in at just $60 for a double roll (such as Hulanicki’s “Hula” seen above in “Charcoal/Gold”). For those confident enough to tackle the hanging themselves, many Graham & Brown wallpapers feature “Paste The Wall” technology for a quick-and-easy, three-step installation. The green-saving doesn’t end there: all paper is either recycled or sourced from managed forests, and they also use non-acidic inks and coatings. Thanks to the Graham & Brown method of saving, you can splurge on an overpriced floor lamp AND that aforementioned Volvo [non-diesel, of course].

Yellow?  Yes.  Mellow?  No!

Regardless of what that toothy weatherman says, it’s 100 percent sunshine in spaces covered with Stella.  This line is by Marcel Wanders and “Yellow,” seen below, runs $75 for a double roll.  All Graham & Brown rolls cover 56 square feet.

Caged to perfection

Playful and chic, Birdcage makes you wonder “Who let the doves out?”  Shown here in “Ebony”, Birdcage costs $60 for a double roll.

Hi-ho blue silver!

The slightly familiar pattern of Barbara Hulanicki’s Viva makes you wonder “It is Celtic or knot?”  This space above is papered in “Turquoise” and runs $60 for a double roll.

Mistaken identity

Holy Coca-Cola, it looks just like the real thing!  The Pallade kitchen and bath series has a faux grout line, which gives the damask style paper a tile-like appearance—that is, without the messy installation.  Shown here in “Black and White”, this $40 per roll product is also splashproof, scrubbable, and UV-resistant.  To check out all of Graham & Brown’s styles, head to www.grahambrown.com.
